This follows the discontinuation of the day sort shift in mid-April of last year when over 300 UPS part-timers were laid off by the company, citing a decline in package volume as the main excuse.
This is the latest hub to be closed since the passage of the new Teamsters contract in 2023, which union officials falsely described as a "historic" victory.
Current and recently retired UPS workers in California recently spoke to WSWS reporters on the ongoing layoffs and the refusal of the union to fight for workers.

UPS announced the closure of three facilities in November, laying off more than 1,000 workers as part of its plans to automate its operations.
Under the “Network of the Future” plan, at least 200 facilities across the United States will be closed or automated. Approximately 80 percent of inside jobs are at risk of being automated out of existence.
Chavez-DeRemer combines right-wing politics with support for the institutional and financial interests of the labor bureaucracy.

UPS announced that it has closed 45 operations and reduced daily capacity by 1 million parcels as it shifted operations to automated facilities.
While the union presents itself as staying neutral, the decision is a de facto endorsement of Trump. A real fight against fascism requires an independent movement of the working class against both parties and the pro-corporate bureaucracy.
