In this video James Cogan, Socialist Equality Party assistant national secretary and a Senate candidate for South Australia in the federal elections, discusses the dangers posed by Washington’s “Asian pivot,” the US-Australia military alliance and the rise of imperialist militarism.
Cogan outlines the economic factors behind the US-led military build-up in the Asia-Pacific and presents the SEP’s alternative to war, austerity cutbacks and the associated attacks on democratic rights. The Senate candidate explains that the only social force capable of preventing this catastrophe is the international working class, led by a revolutionary party based on a socialist program to put an end to the capitalist profit system.
SEP candidates will speak about these issues and the impending US military assault on Syria at the party’s final election meetings, starting this weekend. (See: “SEP 2012 US presidential candidate to speak at Australian election meetings”)
