The city of Detroit plans to close or sell off over fifty schools within the next month, as part of Mayor David Bing’s drive to shut down the poorest sections of the city, forcing residents out and destroying whole neighborhoods.
Catherine Ferguson Academy is slated for closure. It is one of only three high schools in the country dedicated to educating pregnant and parenting mothers in the same building as their children. The school’s threatened closure has evoked an outpouring of opposition.
