Mass protests against Israel’s genocide in Gaza continued in multiple Australian cities over the long weekend. For the 16th successive week, thousands of workers and young people took to the streets to voice their opposition to the Zionist onslaught and the complicity of governments worldwide, including the federal Labor administration in Australia.
In Melbourne, the weekly pro-Palestinian rally was combined with an annual “invasion day” protest held on Friday against the oppression of Australia’s indigenous population. The combined event attracted around 100,000 people.
In addition to a similar protest in Sydney on Friday, attended by around 10,000 people, the regular weekly anti-genocide rally proceeded on Sunday, with thousands of protesters present.
Demonstrators on Sunday were motivated in particular by the International Court of Justice ruling that Israel has a case to answer over a South African charge of genocide, and the response of the Australian Labor government, which has been to double down on its support for Israel and suspend aid to Palestinians.
Video interviews with some of the participants at the rallies are presented below.
