The Socialist Equality Party (SEP) and the International Youth and Students for Social Equality (IYSSE) in Sri Lanka call upon workers, youth and rural masses to register here to participate in the meeting entitled “Build an international working class movement to stop nuclear war danger” to be held on Sunday, October 16, at 4 p.m.
The US/NATO war against Russia in Ukraine now poses an imminent threat of a nuclear cataclysm for working people throughout the world. Following a major military defeat for Russia in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine, the US and NATO are further escalating their war against Russia.
Facing the massive intervention of the US and its European allies, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned last week that he was prepared to use nuclear weapons in case of a NATO attack on Russia, pouring more oil onto the raging fire.
The US is working to integrate countries in South Asia, including India and Sri Lanka, into its war against Russia as well as its war preparations against China. The US wants India, a military-strategic partner against China, to line up against Russia as well. Washington used a recent visit to Sri Lanka by USAID chief Samantha Power to push for Colombo’s closer involvement into US war plans.
Workers must reject the warmongering of the imperialist powers as well as the reactionary response of the Putin regime which represents the Russian oligarchy. The international working class is the only social force on this planet that can avert the danger of nuclear war.
The imperialist powers and their media, with the backing of the pseudo-left organizations, have kept the working class in the dark about the threat of nuclear war. The media in South Asia is no different.
No one should believe that the imperialist powers would not resort to nuclear war. To protect corporate profits, governments around the world have sacrificed millions of lives to the COVID-19 pandemic rather than taking the necessary steps to eliminate the virus.
The International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI) and its sections are fighting to build a unified anti-war movement of the international working class based on a socialist perspective to abolish capitalism, the root cause of war.
The SEP/IYSSE meeting at 4 p.m. on October 16 is part of this struggle. Register here.
