The Socialist Equality Party’s candidates for the Senate in New South Wales (SEP) appeared on the Iron Fist and the Velvet Glove podcast last night to discuss the socialist program they are advancing in the Australian federal election, which is being held this Saturday.

The SEP candidates, Max Boddy, the party’s assistant national-secretary, and Oscar Grenfell, a regular contributor to the WSWS, were asked a range of questions by the program’s host Trevor Bell, in a discussion that lasted over an hour.

The topics covered included the SEP’s attitude to parliament, the viability of reforms under capitalism, the possibility of revolution and the nature of socialist economic policies. The SEP candidates outlined the necessity for a socialist movement of the working class as the only means to halt the threat of nuclear war, to combat the official “let it rip” pandemic policies and to fight the onslaught on workers’ social conditions. They stressed that the forthcoming election would resolve nothing for the working class.

The Iron Fist and the Velvet Glove podcast, which appears each week and covers a range of political and social questions, was streamed live across a number of social media and online platforms.
