Mehring Books, the English-language bookseller and publishing house of the International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI), is proud to announce the launching of a new website, Mehring Books Australia on March 29. Mehring Books, formerly Labor Publications, distributes its titles in the United States, Canada, Australia and Britain, many of which will be available on the new website.
Mehring Books Australia will feature works by the great socialist fighters and theoreticians of the 19th and 20th centuries, including Leon Trotsky, Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Vladimir Lenin, Georgi Plekhanov and Rosa Luxemburg. Critical works such as Lenin’s What Is To Be Done?, Engels’ The Part Played by Labor in the Transition from Ape to Man and Marx’s Wages, Price and Profit can now be purchased directly from the website.
Readers will also be able to purchase major new books and shorter pamphlets, including on Australian political issues, and seminal material by ICFI leaders, in particular, those of David North, Chairman of the International Editorial Board of the World Socialist Web Site (WSWS) and Chairman of the Socialist Equality Party (US).
North’s works have been indispensable over the past four decades in the development and growth of the ICFI and its membership throughout the world. They include The Heritage We Defend—A Contribution to the History of the Fourth International, Perestroika Versus Socialism: Stalinism and the Restoration of Capitalism in the USSR, In Defence of Leon Trotsky, A Quarter Century of War: The US Drive for Global Hegemony and The Russian Revolution and the Unfinished Twentieth Century.
Mehring Books Australia will also feature works by Russian Marxist historian Vadim Z. Rogovin (1937–1998) which powerfully detail the socialist-based opposition to the Stalinist bureaucracy in the Soviet Union. Rogovin, in collaboration with the ICFI, authored a seven-volume work, Was There an Alternative to Stalinism? The latest English-language translation in the series published by Mehring Books is entitled Bolsheviks Against Stalinism 1928–1933: Leon Trotsky and the Left Opposition.
Mehring Books Australia will enable English-language readers of the WSWS in Australia, New Zealand and throughout the Asia-Pacific region, to access its books and pamphlets more readily, and at a reduced price, due to savings made on formerly exorbitant postal costs.
In the coming period, Mehring Books Australia aims to distribute and publish new material, as part of the global expansion of Mehring Books, thus enabling a new generation of socialist workers and young people to develop and build their own library of Marxist literature.
