The Socialist Equality Party yesterday launched the English-language edition of Why Are They Back? Historical Falsification, Political Conspiracy and the Return of Fascism in Germany, at London’s prestigious Foyles Bookshop. Mehring Books participated in the London Book Fair in the week leading up to the launch.

Around 150 people from across the country, including workers, students and professionals, heard speeches from Christoph Vandreier, the author of Why Are They Back? and the deputy chairman of the Socialist Equality Party (Germany), and from David North, chairperson of the World Socialist Web Site International Editorial Board.

Vandreier and North’s contributions were received with great interest and prompted several questions from the audience in the course of a Q&A. Well over £1,000-worth of literature was sold on the day, including over 70 copies of Why Are They Back, as well as Mehring Books’ most recent title, Agents: The FBI and GPU Infiltration of the Trotskyist Movement and several works by North.

Most people stayed on after the meeting closed to continue discussions with WSWS reporters and members of the SEP. Many asked to have their books signed by Vandreier. A more extensive report of the launch will follow.
