The World Socialist Web Site is pleased to announce the publication of the first-ever Urdu translation of Trotsky’s seminal work, Lessons of October.
Urdu is Pakistan’s national language and is also spoken by some 50 million people in India.
Written by Trotsky in 1924, Lessons of October is indispensable both for understanding the history of the October 1917 Russian Revolution and the pivotal role of revolutionary leadership in the socialist revolution.
The Urdu edition was prepared by Pakistani supporters of the International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI). It includes a preface written by Keith Jones, a member of the WSWS International Editorial Board, and an introduction, written by the pioneer Canadian Trotskyist Maurice Spector, for the 1937 English-language edition.
Marxist Voice, a Pakistani group that has expressed political agreement with the perspectives of the International Committee of the Fourth International, and undertaken to work with the ICFI to build it as the World Party of Socialist Revolution, has published the Urdu translation of Lessons of October in book form.
The Urdu translation can be accessed here.
The original, English-language version of the Preface, can be accessed here.
