In appreciation of David Walsh's review of The Siege

It was nice to see another hard-hitting column from David Walsh on the Edward Zwick film, The Siege.

I don't go for conspiracy theories, but the layers of ideological obfuscation that cover practically every form of cultural expression in this country tend to make one sometimes think that there is some sort of central planning bureau writing this dreck. I can see why so many fall into that trap for critical thinking, the stuff just gets so bloody thick. The Siege is just one more solid example of what kind of conclusions 20 years of near-complete boojwah hegemony over cultural expression can lead us to.

I am looking forward to seeing what you all have to say about Oprah Winfrey and Johathan Demme's send-up of Beloved. I've seen some stills from the film, and it looks like the same old song and dance to me, but I'm trying to keep an open mind. It's a struggle. Novels as powerful as Morrison's take on their personal significance with every reader, so any attempt to film it would seem like an intrusion.

Ah, well. Good to see the web site is still roaring along. Keep up the good work!
