Letters on the murder of Gaddafi

The following is a selection of recent letters on the murder of Muammar Gaddafi.

On “US and NATO murder Muammar Gaddafi

I am beside myself from listening to the appalling stream of propaganda on network television. This feels like the nadir, one of the worst events of my lifetime. It marks the triumph of lies, the hijacking of the Arab Spring, and points to even worse to come. Whose country, people and resources will be the next target? And there’s no mention of China, and how it figures in this, on TV either, of course! Not to mention that we are now, in these very weeks, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the first use of aerial bombing in 1911, by the nascent Italian air force, against—Libya!

On “The ‘liberation’ of Libya

Editors:

Terrific piece, one of your best.

Only fitting that the New York Times should write in their editorial: “This was always the Libyan people’s fight.” The truth of course is just the opposite: it was from beginning to end NATO’s fight. But what else to expect from the newspaper that declared President Obama’s decision to send 35,000 more troops to Afghanistan “courageous and sound”—the very two words that describe the action least.

The calls for an investigation into how Gaddafi was killed by the United Nations and NATO are high-minded hypocrisy. The set-up, of destroying the escape through NATO’s direction, is as much a part of the killing of Gaddafi as that of the “rebel” fighters’ lynching, as though that should be surprising given the intensity of it all: they were in for the kill, all but prompted by the imperialist war powers to act their part.

Thus, perhaps NATO expects to excuse itself from contributing to constructing the stage upon which the final act was performed.

The murder of Gaddafi was a repeat performance—with a few changes—of the murder of Saddam Hussein. Hussein was discovered in a hole in the ground. Gaddafi was discovered in a pipe. Unfortunately for Gaddafi, the war criminals of the US and their NATO co-criminals had learned from their mistake in leaving Hussein alive. In their kangaroo court “trial” of Hussein, things were revealed that they did not want revealed. Going back even earlier, there was the trial of Slobodan Milosevic, wherein Milosevic attempted to name names. One can go back decades and see the set-up of former “assets” who were demonized when they escaped the control of the imperialists. Now the forces of imperialism perform summary executions. As has been repeated in recent days, “dead men tell no tales”.
