The International Students for Social Equality (ISSE) at Virginia Commonwealth University will hold a public meeting on Monday, March 5 at 5 p.m. World Socialist Web Site editorial board member Barry Grey will speak on the war in Iraq, the threats against Iran and the global eruption of American militarism.
In the November 2006 elections, the American people expressed their deep-felt opposition to the war in Iraq. The Bush administration has responded by escalating US military violence in Iraq and ratcheting up its threats and provocations against Iran. The Democratic Party, which gained control of Congress as a result of the antiwar vote, is continuing its complicity in the war by refusing to use its control of Congress to end it.
The ISSE is calling for the development of an international movement of students and the working class as a whole against the Iraq war and the threat of its extension into Iran. Such a struggle can be conducted only in opposition to both the Democrats and the Republicans and the profit system they uphold, which is the cause of imperialist war.
The meeting is open to all students and members of the broader community. It will be the first in a series of meetings leading up to the Emergency Conference Against War, called by the International Students for Social Equality and the Socialist Equality Party, to be held March 31 and April 1 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
